The event, called the “Ford Big Drive House Party,” is recruiting Ford owners to invite friends, relatives, neighbors and coworkers into their homes this weekend and talk up their cars. The event, to be conducted by a marketing services company named House Party, is indicative of the growing interest among major advertisers in nontraditional methods of reaching consumers — particularly if they bring brands to life in tangible forms.

Premium Chocolate Wars Begin

"Hershey's Bliss Chocolate was created with a brand character that reflects the everyday interests and personality of women," John Staffen, chief creative officer at Arnold, New York, said in a statement. When looking at the advertising with the mass premium chocolate category, there seems to be a common theme of decadence and extravagance that can sometimes feel a bit too manufactured and unrealistic." Arnold handled the effort. Ad buys will include network and cable TV programs and print support starting with May publications like InStyle and People. Hershey also is partnering with House Party, Irvington, N.Y., to recruit hosts for 10,000 chocolate parties during the April 25 weekend.

Clairol House Parties Take Over the Nation

Clairol partnered with House Party, a unique marketing company that creates immersive events through at-home parties, to carefully select 1,000 hosts. The hosts were provided with the educational materials and expertise they need to help their friends and family make the best decisions about at- home haircolor in a comfortable setting -- their own homes. From choosing the perfect shade to a video of expert tips from celebrity colorist Brad Johns, Clairol will provide each host with the tools to inform and educate their guests.

This is the Avon Lady...On Steroids

In May, Heidi Aberi pulled together 35 friends for a party. The group was too large to fit in her house, so she decorated the gym of the Rochester, N.Y., school where she works as a physical-education teacher with streamers and balloons, supplied healthful snacks and blasted energetic music. The occasion? A DVD release from Turbo Jam, a kind of Jazzercise-meets-Tae Bo fitness regimen.
